Any of our letterpress wedding invitations can feature our custom venue illustration of Bendooley Estate for no additional fee. My illustration depicts The Stables located within Bendooley Estate. The illustration captures the building from a distance, highlighting the floor to ceiling end windows . The courtyard and garden details along with the trees surrounding The Stables have been incorporated to provide context and emphasise its place within the setting.
The second illustration is of the original Bendooley Estate Homestead and the gorgeous surrounding gardens. The illustration captures the building with the vine-covered verandah, surrounding hedges and circular garden.
Creating the illustration
To create The Stables illustration, I initially outlined the venue using a pencil and then refined it with a pen to achieve the final image. My drawing style involves using line and shading techniques to add dimension to buildings and scenes. For this specific artwork, I focused on detailing the timber cladding while opting for a simpler roof to create contrast.
In my illustrations, I make it a point to integrate greenery and natural surroundings, as they contribute depth and context to the image. Incorporating these elements grounds the artwork and prevents the building from feeling isolated, especially when incorporated into invitation designs. For The Stables illustration, I included the surrounding gardens and distant landscape to enhance this sense of natural context.
For the Homestead, my process involved outlining the building structure including the roof and windows. I then added the vines and gardens adding detail to create tone and texture. I included the gardens and trees in the background to enhance the roof structure and to give the building some context. In this drawing, I emphasised the intricate details of the vines and gardens, contrasting them with fine parallel lines on the roof to create visual interest.
